'Haven't got the time so this will go here', Pen on Paper |
Over the last few months I have looked a lot at the objects and spaces that I inhabit as a means by which to generate a subject matter for the drawings. Also in a few of the recent draws I looked more at the space inhabited by someone else, something that I decided to do again today. The drawing is of an area in one of the other rooms in the house occupied by my house-mate, it brought to mind a similar notion to one I mentioned before, that being how we leave our mark on a space. In this case though I was thinking more about how in a space we try and arrange like things in one place so that they are easier to find and it all has some sort of relevance and structure. One thing that does happen though is over time other objects tend to slowly encroach on the clearly defined areas that we previously masked out, either as we are in a hurry and don't put things back in their exact place or there is just more stuff in our room than there used to be and it has to go somewhere. I have a feeling also that space will become more and more relevant over the course of this project especially as it nears its end. The reason I say this is that as it gets closer to its resolution I will need to consider exactly how the objects I have created, that being the drawings, inhabit the space that they have been designated, that being possibly in a gallery space or even in the pages of a book... inevitably than the notion of space is going to become more prominent.
